Construction on the Omrania-designed Western Station of the new Arriyadh Metro system continues to make progress. The steel framing of the dune-inspired canopies is coming along well, and other elements of the site plan are beginning to become visible.
Recent photos of the 11.7-hectare site show several of the gracefully arching steel canopy structures almost fully formed. These will shelter the expansive light rail and bus concourses as well as auxiliary program areas to welcome thousands of passengers and visitors per day. The mosque and minaret can be seen taking shape on the western part of the site. Also visible here is the curving hardscape that will give shape to the future public spaces at the northwest corner of the site. Parking is placed below grade in order to free the ground level for pedestrian and mass-transit use. Stay tuned for future updates on this exciting project — key to making Riyadh a sustainable metropolis!
