The integrated light rail and bus station will offer vibrant gardens, markets, and other public amenities.

Currently under construction, the Western Station is one of four multimodal hubs anchoring the new metropolitan transit system comprising six light-rail lines, three bus rapid transit (BRT) lines, 24 local bus routes, and multiple park-and-ride facilities. The station will offer a covered market and a variety of plazas and gardens to serve the rapidly growing Al Badee’a neighborhood as well as the thousands of commuters expected to pass through the station each day. Designed to last 100 years and achieve a LEED Silver rating for new construction, the project includes numerous energy- and water-saving features.

See our recent post, “Architecture for Transit and a New Riyadh,” for more info on how the Western Metro Station is part of a larger initiative to adopt sustainable planning and urbanism in the Saudi capital city.
