Omrania is honored to serve as the lead design consultant for the new “KAAR Gateway” mixed-use development in Makkah.

Sited at a crucial juncture near the Masjid Al-Haram (Great Mosque), this six-building development stands at the edge of the King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR) urban development project that will dramatically modernize Makkah. In terms of urban design, it will create an iconic portal or gateway between the mosque and the city. The mixed-use development includes hospitality, residential, shopping, and public spaces adjacent to the projected 60-meter-wide, elevated pedestrian boulevard that traverses the 3.65-kilometer length of the KAAR master plan. Architecturally, the KAAR Gateway consists of four chiseled towers of stepped rectangular forms. The design reinterprets the vernacular architecture of Makkah with layered compositions of rectilinear screens, setbacks, and cantilevers, all from a boldly contemporary perspective.
