Invited by the Saudi Council of Engineers to participate in the recent Saudi Building Code Forum, Omrania served as an expert panelist and as an official sponsor. The forum highlighted the importance of applying the Saudi Building Code across various types of construction. More broadly, the event reflected the increasing professionalism of the building industry in KSA.
As the Kingdom continues to see immense growth and development, the Saudi government and the engineering community are working to modernize the country’s building code. The code is designed to protect lives and property, ensure construction quality, and rationalize water and energy use. Although the code once pertained only to large structures, recent legislation requires more buildings and dwellings to be licensed under the code. This means that engineers, architects, and builders must understand the code and how to apply it correctly.
On March 28, 2022, Omrania participated in the Saudi Building Code Forum. The forum was held under the patronage of his excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing Mr. Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail. Organized by the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE), the event was hosted in the business center of the Hilton Riyadh Hotel — a recently completed, award-winning facility designed and engineered by Omrania.
As a large office with extensive design and engineering experience, Omrania was invited to serve as an expert panelist in the forum’s third session, titled “Encouraging engineering offices to implement the code.” Omrania’s Project Manager, Meshal Al-Buthie, represented the company and offered insights based on a variety of recent projects. Omrania was also pleased to serve as one of the official sponsors of the forum.
Topics addressed at the forum included:
- The code and its impact on the sustainability of construction and society
- Legislation and the procedures for applying the Saudi Building Code
- The role of engineering offices in the application of the Saudi Building Code
The forum opened with speeches by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Council of Engineers, the Riyadh Region Mayor, and His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. Following this opening program, the forum proceeded to the three main panel sessions, each featuring a handful of distinguished speakers from government agencies and private engineering offices.
Omrania is pleased to see progress across the AEC industry, and will continue working with clients and authorities to implement the Saudi Building Code in the interests of occupant health and safety, water and energy conservation, building durability, and sustainability.
